Improvement Campaign

The Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad is a 501 (c )( 3) not-for-profit organization.  ASVRR’s purpose is to preserve history by entertaining and educating visitors. For this purpose the Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad was formed in 1993. The excursion train has been operating since that time providing train rides not only for the general public but also for special groups, school field trips, dinner trains, birthday parties, weddings and reunions. ASVRR restored the former ATSF Steam Locomotive #3415 and the 1887 Rock Island Depot and both are on the National Register of Historic Places.

ASVRR asks that you consider making a donation to help sustain our operations into the future. Your donation in this campaign will be used to complete a federally mandated major overhaul of our steam locomotive #3415 and to improve the rider experience on our passenger cars to include new air conditioning equipment, new PA system, and new electrical generator to power them.  We also are seeking funds to continue with a major upgrade of our track.  The donation is tax deductible.  We are seeking grants from several sources to accomplish these goals but we will also need additional donations to help with the cost and provide matching funds for the grants.

By donating to our Capital Improvement Funds you will help the continuation of operation of the Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad for many years into the future for the enjoyment of those who “Ride the Rails of History”.
