How’s this for a Father’s Day gift? A two-hour train ride across the Smoky Hill River Valley, riding in classic dining cars that feature Kansas home cooking! That describes the Smoky Valley Limited’s annual Father’s Day Express! On Saturday, June 14, our chef, Leann Urbanek of Broadway Station in Herington, presents a seven-layer salad and your choice of Kansas brisket or Broadway Chicken, a chicken breast smothered with BBQ sauce topped with bacon, & shredded cheese. Sides include cheesy potatoes and baked beans. And for dessert? A generous portion of cherry cobbler. Iced tea or water accompany the meal. Our train leaves the historic grandeur of Abilene’s Rock Island Depot at 6:00 p.m. for the destination city of Enterprise, Kansas, for a stop at the Hoffman Mill and Country Store.
