ALL ABOARD THE KATY FLYER!
As dining cars became a standard feature on the Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad, hungry passengers riding on the MKT’s sprawling network of rails through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas enjoyed quality food on trains with such names as the Katy Flyer, the Katy Limited, the Texas Special, and the Bluebonnet. Each of these trains shared a menu of food items crafted by the railroad’s staff of professional chefs. On Saturday, July 1, join us on the Abilene and Smoky Valley Railroad as we pay tribute to railroad dining, M-K-T style! Using actual M-K-T railroad recipes, Lucinda’s Katering in Abilene is preparing a menu featuring the railroad’s “Katy Chicken Pie,” accompanied by a lettuce wedge salad, mashed potatoes, corn and the railroad’s special biscuit item, “Katy Kornettes.” For dessert, enjoy the
M-K-T peach cobbler. Coffee and tea will be provided. The A&SV’s “Katy Flyer” will spotlight our vintage 1902 M-K-T wooden passenger coach, accompanied by our newly remodeled 1946 Chicago Northwestern luxury coach. The train leaves Abilene’s historic Rock Island Depot at 6:00 p.m.
Join us as we pay tribute to the M-K-T, one of Kansas’ legacy railroads!
