Labor Day weekend is the time of year when we say goodbye to summer and usher in the start of school, football, and cooler fall temperatures. And for Labor Day, we look for one last family adventure before fall activities step up. The Abilene and Smoky Valley Railroad has the perfect idea: TAKE THE TRAIN! On Saturday, August 30, we leave Abilene’s historic Rock Island Depot at 6:00 p.m. with a rail adventure that includes some of the area’s best home cooking. Lucinda’s Katering of Abilene is preparing luscious roasted chicken breast with stuffing, snowflake potatoes, green beans, and dinner rolls, with strawberry shortcake for dessert. Complimentary iced tea and water accompanies the meal. Enjoy a great meal as we chug through the fertile farmlands of the Smoky Hill River Valley, with a stop in Enterprise, Kansas, at the Hoffman Mill and Country Store. Sneak in one last family outing this Labor Day weekend on the Abilene and Smoky Valley, the Kansas Heritage Railroad!
