With Halloween just around the corner, how about a little murder mystery to add to the spookiness of the season? The Abilene and Smoky Valley’s Smoky Valley Limited dinner train once again presents a Chicago car tale of murder and intrigue, “The Haunting of Betsy Von Bulow.” It’s a spooky séance whodunnit presented exclusively in our Chicago car, which rocks gently. The lights flicker. The séance begins… and as the Smoky Valley Limited presses onward through the night, so does the mystery. Reclusive heiress Betsy von Bulow insists that spirits have followed her to her Chicago car table, and when she dies before the train gets to Enterprise, Kansas, the question becomes chillingly clear: was it a ghost… or something far more earthly? All 56 passengers in the Chicago car will hear the facts, play the parts, and help our detectives Erin and John solve the case! Whether or not you’re riding in the Chicago car, all passengers will enjoy a great meal prepared by Broadway Station in Herington: brisket, with seven-layer salad, cheesy potatoes, baked beans, dinner roll, and delicious homemade cherry cobbler for dessert. Complimentary coffee, iced tea and water accompanies hour meal, and soft drinks, beer and wine is available for purchase. Our rail adventure leaves the Rock Island Depot at 6:00 p.m. for a two-hour ride through the Smoky Hill River Valley, with a stop in Enterprise Kansas, at the Hoffman Mill and General Store. Have fun with our Chicago car murder mystery and enjoy a great meal on the Abilene and Smoky Valley, the Kansas Heritage Railroad.
