Since 1941, United Service Organizations has been producing entertainment for U.S. service men and women here at home and around the world. And if you’re old enough, you likely remember the great entertainers who traveled anywhere and everywhere to entertain the troops. People like Bob Hope, Marilyn Monroe, and Frank Sinatra were part of over 7,000 show people who sang, danced, and did comedy routines to inspire morale and give our soldiers a link to life back home.

This year, as we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, and in honor of our native son General Dwight Eisenhower, the Abilene and Smoky Valley Railroad presents Erin Fox and John Robison of Lawrence, Kansas, who, along with pianist Mike Schurtz, will provide the songs, the laughter and the spirit of USO-style entertainment. On November 14, our nation’s 107th observance of Veterans Day, the Abilene and Smoky Valley’s Smoky Valley Limited dinner train will present our tribute to the USO in the A&SV Chicago car.

And Kites of Aggieville Manhattan has cooked up some great fall weather food on the A&SV Smoky Valley Limited dinner train. on Saturday, November 14, enjoy Kansas grown roast beef over Texas toast, with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and dinner roll, with a tossed salad and apple cobbler for dessert. Complimentary coffee, iced tea, and water will be served, and for a little extra, enjoy a popular soft drink, cold beer, or glass of wine with your meal. Our train leaves Abilene’s historic Rock Island Depot at 6:00 p.m. for a two-hour train ride, with a stop at the Hoffman Mill and General Store in Enterprise, Kansas. Get your tickets today because Chicago car seating is limited to only 56 people!
